ANAMBRA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | A 35-year-old man, Chukwudalu Ezeani, has been arrested by the Anambra State Police Command for allegedly killing his cousin, Chinedu Ezeani, and burying his body in a shallow grave in Afube village, Amichi, in Nnewi South Local Government Area.
The suspect reportedly committed the offence on August 1, 2025, at about 8 p.m. in his residence, where he concealed the corpse within his compound for nearly eight months.
Confirming the incident in a statement on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, explained that the case was initially reported as a missing person at the Amichi Police Station.
He noted that operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka later reopened the case based on credible intelligence, which led to the suspect’s arrest.
According to Ikenga, detectives uncovered the long-standing case following the arrest of the suspect in connection with the killing of his 52-year-old cousin.
Preliminary findings revealed that the man allegedly carried out the act at his residence in Afube village before burying the victim in a shallow grave within the compound to conceal the crime for months.
Ikenga added that the suspect confessed during interrogation and guided detectives to the burial site, where the decomposed remains were exhumed.
The remains have been deposited for forensic examination, while the suspect is expected to be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to justice and urged the public to promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
