…advert fee was unjustifiable targeted at weakening the opposition – Moghalu
Labour Party candidate in the November 8 governorship election in Anambra state, Chief George Moghalu has described the N50million advert fee demanded from contenders as manifestations of fear and desperation, iNews Times reports.
He said the decision was an indirect way of stifling opposition.
The government, through the State Signage and Advertisement Agency, ANSAA had announced the sum of N50million for each of the gubernatorial candidates of the various political parties participating in the poll.
But speaking on Friday during the presentation of the deputy governorship candidate of the party, Mrs Ifeoma Okaro, Moghalu said the fee was unjustifiable targeted at weakening the opposition.
“I see it as desperation and manifestations of fear. How do you justify such? It’s a matter of people looking how they can stifle opposition. We’re going to respond officially,” he said.
Expressing confidence over chances of the party wrestling power from the ruling All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), the LP flagbearer urged support from party faithful.
“We’re sure of what we’re doing. We are throwing everything into this to have success. I assure you that your labour will not be in vain. Hold me to my promise because I don’t say what I cannot do. I believe in accountability.
“Labour is not the same with others and we are not in alliance. We are moving together until victory is attained. We will tour LGAs and shake the state with our presence and penetrating campaign,” he stressed.
On her part, Deputy Governorship Candidate, Mrs Ifeoma Okaro solicited support from the party especially the women, assuring she would not betray the confidence reposed in her.
“This is the time for women to prove their power through their population. This confidence you have placed in me, I will not fail nor disappoint you,” she added.
Member representing Anaocha, Dunukofia and Njikoka constituency, George Ozodinobi said the party was not unaware of the enormity of the task ahead, charging members not to trivialize such tasks
“We’re facing the incumbent. Yes, the governor is one of the best of Anambra State as world renowned economist but governance doesn’t recognize him,” he added.
Among the dignitaries that attended the meeting were local government and ward party chairmen and secretaries.
