LAGOS, NIGERIA – The iNews Times | Nigerian Afrobeats sensation, Stanley Omah Didia, better known as Omah Lay, has expressed mixed emotions over his first-ever Grammy nomination, admitting he’s more excited for fellow star Davido than for himself.
The hitmaker earned his maiden Grammy nod with his collaboration with Davido on the chart-topping single ‘With You’, which was nominated in the Best African Music Performance category at the upcoming 68th Annual Grammy Awards.
Reacting via his official Instagram page, Omah Lay said he was thrilled about the recognition but emphasized that he doesn’t attach personal value to awards.
“I’m excited about this Grammy nomination haha but fr fr I don’t give a sh!t about awards. Yeah but I really want it for OBO! He is the realest friend I’ve had in a while; he stood by me during my hardest times,” he wrote.
His candid post has since sparked reactions among fans, many praising the singer’s humility and loyalty to Davido, who has also been nominated multiple times but is yet to clinch a Grammy.
Davido, who has previously earned four nominations, including two in the same category since its introduction in 2023, remains one of Africa’s most globally recognized music figures.
The 2026 Grammy Awards will be held on February 1, 2026, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, with a live global broadcast on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.
For both Omah Lay and Davido, the nomination marks another milestone in Nigeria’s growing global music influence, reinforcing the dominance of Afrobeats on the world stage.
