Peace restored in Ogbaru community

…panel was set up to restore peace between two rival youths in the community who were in enmity for years.

AWKA, NIGERIA – The iNews Times reports that a panel of Inquiry set up by Anambra State Government to look into lingering crisis in Ogwuaniocha, a community in Ogbaru Local Government Area has finally restored peace to the community.

Chairman of the Panel, Justice Calagne Anigbogu confirmed this shortly after the peace talk held at the Old Government House, Awka.

He noted that the panel was set up to restore peace between two rival youths in the community who were in enmity for years, which led to loss of lives, including traditional ruler of the community and destruction of structures.

According to Anigbogu, the panel interacted with the youths who united together as one body of Ogwuaniocha Youths to settle the rift between them.

“Peace has returned finally, and we are impressed.

“What the youths presented to us was part of our terms of reference, because government asked us to access impact of the crisis and what is expected to have lasting peace and progress in the community.

“That’s what we have achieved. We will still access the damages done with the help of the Technical Committee made up of estate valuers and quantity surveyors.

“They will do proper evaluation to help Government to ameliorate the losses by some kind of palliatives,” he said.

The Youth President of the Ogwuaniocha community, Engr. Uche Onyedi, while presenting the letter of peace resolution, on behalf of other youths, thanked the state government for the interventions.

He pleaded for government’s assistance in flushing out elements in the community living in the forest which had made life unbearable for them, while assisting them with resettlement and provision of infrastructures.

Other committee members of the Panel including Prof. Charles Ofoegbu admonished the youths to continue to live in peace to enjoy the amenities as an oil producing area.
