ADC 2027 Race Heats Up as Peter Obi Eyes Presidential Ticket

…as supporters continue to mount pressure on ADC leadership to adopt Peter Obi as the party’s sole presidential standard-bearer for 2027.

Abuja, Nigeria – The iNews Times, former Anambra State governor and leading political figure, Peter Obi, has openly declared his intention to seek the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Obi made this known while addressing supporters during a campaign event for ADC candidates in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections, held at the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

In his address, Peter Obi made it clear that he is targeting the top position within the party’s political structure, stressing that he is not interested in playing a subordinate or supporting role in the ADC’s long-term political agenda.

He linked the AMAC election to his broader political ambition and urged party loyalists and residents to rally behind the ADC candidate, describing the contest as strategically important to his political journey.

According to him, success in the AMAC poll would serve as a critical stepping stone toward his 2027 ambition, emphasizing that his involvement in the coming elections is as a principal contender, not as a secondary figure.

“This coming election, support us in AMAC; it will help me. Your support in AMAC is critical to our journey. I am involved and contesting the coming election as number one. When I come back, you will see. I assure you,” Obi said.

Meanwhile, pressure has continued to mount from Peter Obi’s supporters, particularly members of the Obidient Movement, who are reportedly pushing the ADC leadership to adopt him as the party’s sole presidential standard-bearer for 2027.

However, the ADC platform is also attracting other heavyweight political figures with presidential ambitions, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, setting the stage for an intense internal contest ahead of the party’s primaries.
