…“Naija police killed one of my area guys. Although he was a member of the Eiye confraternity, he did not fight the policeman.”

OYO, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | A yet-to-be-identified police officer, described as trigger-happy, has allegedly shot dead a teenager known simply as DMX in the Alakia area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

It was gathered that the incident happened on Tuesday following an altercation between the officer and the victim.

A source familiar with the situation told news men on Wednesday that the disagreement escalated, leading the officer to reportedly shoot the teenager in the leg.

According to the source, the victim’s friends rushed him to a hospital, but he ultimately succumbed to the gunshot injury.

The source explained, “DMX had a disagreement with a police officer. The situation escalated, and the officer shot him in the leg. His friends were alerted and rushed him to the hospital, but he had already lost a significant amount of blood before getting medical attention.”

The incident began to draw public attention after an X user, @Sturbyrich65562, sounded an alarm online, insisting that the teenager had not engaged in any physical confrontation with the officer.

He wrote, “Naija police killed one of my area guys. Although he was a member of the Eiye confraternity, he did not fight the policeman.”

“He was shot in Ibadan. From what I’ve heard, the policeman seemed trigger-happy,” the user wrote while tagging an anti-cultism advocacy group, Naija Confra.

In a separate post on Tuesday, Naija Confra corroborated reports that the deceased experienced delays in receiving medical care.

“He was taken to the hospital alive, and payment was made for blood because he was already losing a significant amount of blood. However, his friends claim that delays and negligence at the hospital, even after payment, contributed to his death,” the platform stated.

The group also noted that DMX’s father is reportedly a senior police officer.

Efforts to reach the state Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Oyefeso, were unsuccessful, as calls to his phone went unanswered. A text message sent to him had also not been responded to at the time of filing this report.

The shooting occurs amid rising public concern over the conduct of security personnel, particularly regarding excessive use of force.
