Police on High Alert in Oyo Over Alleged ‘Bandits’ Threat to Community

…Police officers, he said, are currently on round-the-clock high alert,

OYO, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | The Oyo State Police Command has begun investigating a threat letter, written in both Yoruba and English, allegedly authored by suspected bandits and circulated among residents of Ikoyi-Ile in Orire Local Government Area.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, explaining that the handwritten note was reportedly dropped in front of a residential building and warned of a planned attack on the community.

According to Ayanlade, upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, immediately activated the command’s intelligence, tactical and operational machinery. He said the State Intelligence Department, working closely with tactical units, was instructed to carry out intensive debriefing of individuals linked to the discovery of the note, while security operatives were swiftly deployed and repositioned across Ikoyi-Ile and neighbouring areas.

He added that visible security measures have been significantly strengthened, including armed patrols, stop-and-search operations, intelligence surveillance and strategic area domination. Police officers, he said, are currently on round-the-clock high alert, maintaining sustained presence to prevent any criminal activity, while the Area Command has been directed to ensure constant supervision and continuous patrols in the affected axis.

Ayanlade further stated that the command has launched a comprehensive, intelligence-led investigation to determine the source, authenticity and intent of the threat.

He stressed that all leads are being followed and assured that anyone found responsible would be dealt with decisively in accordance with the law.

The police command reassured residents of Ikoyi-Ile and the wider Oyo State that there is no cause for panic, urging them to continue their lawful activities while remaining vigilant.

He noted that robust security measures are already in place to protect lives and property, adding that residents should expect increased police visibility, patrols and security engagements aimed at maintaining peace and public safety.

The command also said it is working closely with other security agencies and community stakeholders to ensure a coordinated and proactive security response across the state.

Residents were urged to promptly report any suspicious persons, movements or activities to the nearest police station, security post or through designated emergency channels, as timely information remains vital to effective preventive policing.
