Soldiers force driver to swim in muddy water

ENUGU, NIGERIA – The iNews Times | A viral video has sparked public outrage after showing a group of Nigerian soldiers allegedly forcing a driver to wade through a muddy puddle in Enugu State. The incident reportedly occurred along the busy Nsukka Road on Monday, August 11, 2025.

Eyewitnesses said the soldiers stopped the man after his vehicle accidentally splashed muddy water on them while they were on patrol.

Rather than letting the incident pass, the military men allegedly ordered him to step out of his vehicle and walk through the same puddle his car had driven through.

In the widely circulated footage, the man can be seen trudging through brown, murky water while the soldiers followed closely behind. Onlookers gathered at the roadside, some recording the scene with their phones, while others expressed disbelief at what they were witnessing.

The video has since generated heated reactions on social media, with many Nigerians condemning the soldiers’ conduct as an abuse of power. Others argued that the matter could have been resolved more appropriately without public humiliation.

Neither the Nigerian army nor the Enugu State authorities have issued an official statement on the incident as of press time, but human rights advocates are already calling for an investigation into the soldiers’ actions.

This latest development adds to growing concerns about the relationship between military personnel and civilians, particularly regarding alleged cases of harassment and excessive use of authority on public roads.
