…Tight security was equally observed at major Eid prayer grounds, central mosques, markets, motor parks and recreational centres
JOS, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | Security has been heightened around mosques and prayer grounds in Jos, the Plateau State capital, as Muslims mark Eid-el-Fitr.
A visit to the Fibre Mosque near Old Airport Junction revealed a strong presence of security personnel, while residents and worshippers carried on with their normal routines.
Tight security was equally observed at major Eid prayer grounds, central mosques, markets, motor parks and recreational centres to forestall any breakdown of law and order.
At locations such as the mosque near the Federal Secretariat and Masallacin Eid in Tudun Wada, both uniformed and plainclothes operatives were deployed, with increased patrols and surveillance to curb any suspicious activity.
At the Dogo Karfe Mosque, worshippers conducted their prayers peacefully under the watch of operatives.
The Plateau State Police Command had earlier placed the state on high alert ahead of the Sallah celebrations, with extensive operatives deployments.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah, said a comprehensive security strategy involving personnel and critical assets had been activated to protect lives, property and maintain public order before, during and after the festivities.
The command warned that anyone attempting to disrupt the peace would be swiftly arrested and prosecuted.
It also announced key restrictions, including a ban on commercial tricycle (Keke Napep) operations within Jos and Bukuru metropolis on Sallah day.
The Commissioner further urged residents to stay vigilant, promptly report suspicious activities, and avoid actions capable of triggering unrest.
He also called on religious leaders, parents and community stakeholders to encourage peace, orderliness and heightened security awareness throughout the celebrations.
