‎…Malami described his experience in custody, including time spent with the EFCC, at Kuje Prison, and with the DSS, as the will of God, while reaffirming his determination to defend himself.

‎‎ABUJA,NIGERIA- The iNews Times | Abubakar Malami, the former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, has stated that he has no regrets about his time in office following his release from detention.

‎Malami, who is facing a 16-count charge bordering on alleged money laundering alongside his wife, Bashir Asabe, and son, Abdulaziz Malami, said he is prepared to strongly contest the allegations. All three defendants pleaded not guilty to charges brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

‎He was rearrested on January 19 by operatives of the Department of State Services shortly after being released from Kuje Prison.

‎Two days later, Malami accused the DSS of denying him access to both his family and legal representatives.

‎On February 27, a Federal High Court in Abuja granted him and his son bail in the sum of N200 million each over alleged terrorism-related offences, a condition they have since met, leading to their release.

‎Speaking in an interview with DCL Hausa published on Wednesday, Malami described his experience in custody, including time spent with the EFCC, at Kuje Prison, and with the DSS, as the will of God, while reaffirming his determination to defend himself.

‎“I have spent time in EFCC custody, Kuje Prison, and with the DSS. I believe it is all God’s will, and I accept it, but I will defend myself against the allegations,” he said.

‎He also alleged that his rights were violated during the investigation, claiming that security agencies searched his homes and business premises without notifying him.

‎“They violated my rights by searching my houses and business premises without informing me. Constitutionally, I have the right to be present during such searches to monitor what is being investigated or taken,” he said.

‎Despite the challenges, Malami maintained his stance, insisting he has no regrets over his actions while serving as minister.
