BORNO, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | Suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists have attacked a nomadic settlement in Wuturo, Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State, killing one herder and rustling about 1,400 sheep.
The Public Relations Officer of the Borno State Police Command, ASP Nahum Daso, confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday, adding that another person sustained injuries.
Daso said the terrorists stormed the settlement on Tuesday at about 10:30 p.m., arriving on five motorcycles.
According to the statement, the police command condemned the attack, which was allegedly carried out by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists.
He explained that the incident was reported to the Konduga Police Division by the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association in Konduga, stating that unknown gunmen riding five motorcycles invaded the settlement on March 10, 2026, at about 10:30 p.m.
Preliminary investigations showed that a 40-year-old man, Ahmadu Baida, suffered fatal gunshot wounds during the attack, while another victim, 30-year-old Mohammadu Baida, sustained a gunshot injury to his left leg.
Daso added that the terrorists also made away with about 1,400 sheep belonging to the herders.
He said a joint team comprising the police, military, Civilian Joint Task Force, and local hunters, led by the Divisional Police Officer in Konduga, quickly moved to the scene after receiving the report.
The victims were taken to the hospital, where Ahmadu Baida was confirmed dead on arrival by a doctor, while the injured victim is currently receiving treatment and responding well.
Daso further said that following the directive of the Borno State Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, the command has activated coordinated operational strategies with other security agencies and community stakeholders to track down the attackers, prevent further incidents, and recover the rustled livestock.
He added that tactical and intelligence resources have been deployed across the affected area and nearby communities to strengthen security presence.
The police command expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and assured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
Daso also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements or individuals.
This development comes just days after terrorists reportedly launched a coordinated assault on an army base in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State, engaging troops in a gun battle that lasted nearly 24 hours and reportedly claimed the lives of some soldiers, including a commanding officer.
Despite ongoing military operations in the North-East, sporadic attacks on communities and military positions continue to challenge efforts to restore lasting peace in the region.
