…she gave the retirement advice during a ceremony organised in her honour.
Awka, Nigeria — The iNews Times | NIS retirement advice took centre stage as a retired Assistant Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Anambra State Command, Uzoamaka Ozougwu, urged officers to remain joyful in the course of their duties despite the demanding nature of the job.
Ozougwu gave the retirement advice during a ceremony organised in her honour at the Command Headquarters following her retirement from service.
She said allowing God’s peace and joy to guide their emotions would help officers stay prepared for any eventuality in the line of duty.
“Be joyful always because the job entails a lot. You can just be resting and a circular will come directing you to move,” she said.
“But allowing the peace and joy of the Lord to control your emotions keeps you ready for anything.”
Describing the Command as a “home away from home,” Ozougwu appreciated the management and her colleagues for their cooperation and encouragement, which she said made her work easier throughout her career.
She also expressed gratitude to her family for their support during her 35 years of service.
Ozougwu, who was enlisted into the Nigeria Immigration Service in 1991 as a Senior Immigration Assistant at the Enugu State Command, pledged to remain available to colleagues even after retirement.
“The cooperation from my colleagues and support from home made my career smooth, seamless and less stressful.
“I thank the Comptroller, the management and all my colleagues. I appreciate the love we shared and the sacrifices you made because of me. Without you, I wouldn’t have performed. Your cooperation was top-notch.
“I’m deeply grateful to my family, particularly my husband and children, for their unwavering support which made my 35 years of service feel like ‘35 seconds,’” she added.
Speaking at the event, some officers described Ozougwu as hardworking, unassuming and accessible, noting that she would be greatly missed.
They prayed for God’s blessings, long life and good health for her in retirement.
The ceremony, attended by family members and colleagues, featured a cake-cutting to celebrate Ozougwu’s 54th birthday as well as the presentation of gifts in her honour.
