…Tinubu is expected to spend ₦7.01 billion on local and international travels
ABUJA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima are projected to spend a combined ₦9.36 billion on local and foreign travels, as well as food and refreshments, in the 2026 fiscal year, according to the 2026 Appropriation Bill released by the Budget Office of the Federation on Thursday.
President Tinubu presented the ₦58.18 trillion budget proposal to a joint session of the National Assembly on December 19, 2025, stressing that national security remains the backbone of economic growth, investment, and social stability.
Details from the 2,790-page budget document reviewed by iNews Times show that ₦3.2 trillion is allocated to Defence, ₦1.1 trillion to Power, and ₦2.3 trillion to Education. The Federal Government also plans to spend ₦2.1 trillion on Health and Social Welfare, ₦1.4 trillion on Agriculture and Food Security, while the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is allocated ₦1 trillion.
From the presidency’s expenditure breakdown, Tinubu is expected to spend ₦7.01 billion on local and international travels and ₦431.6 million on food, catering, refreshments, and related supplies. Of the travel costs, ₦873.9 million is for local trips, while ₦6.14 billion is earmarked for foreign travels.
Vice President Shettima, on his part, is projected to spend ₦1.73 billion on travels and ₦186 million on food and catering. His travel expenses include ₦417.5 million for local trips and ₦1.31 billion for international journeys.
The budget also shows that the President will spend ₦65.77 million on honorarium and sitting allowances, while ₦895 million is allocated for the purchase of library books and equipment. Other provisions include ₦179 million for vehicles, ₦778.6 million for office furniture and fittings, and ₦1.34 million for health and medical equipment.
Additionally, ₦89.5 million has been budgeted for the ongoing procurement of Sport Utility Vehicles for both the President and Vice President.
Meanwhile, the Senate on December 23, 2025, passed the Appropriation Bill for second reading, paving the way for detailed legislative consideration of the proposed spending plan.
