Tinubu Visits Jos After Plateau Attack That Killed 27

Tinubu Visits Jos, Vows Justice for Plateau Victims

…Tinubu Visits Jos, a development that resonates beyond Plateau.

JOS, Nigeria — Tinubu Visits Jos on a solemn condolence mission following last Sunday’s deadly attack in the Angwan Rukuba district of Plateau State that left at least 27 people dead, reinforcing the Federal Government’s commitment to justice and national security.

The iNews Times reports that the President’s arrival in the Plateau State capital comes days after he strongly condemned the killings, describing the attackers as “barbaric and cowardly” and vowing that those responsible would not escape justice.

President Bola Tinubu was received at the Yakubu Gowon Airport in Jos by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, Plateau State Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, and other senior government officials.

ADC Leadership Crisis: Party Accuses INEC of Violating Court Order

The visit underscores growing federal concern over renewed violence in parts of Plateau and neighbouring Kaduna State.

A State in Mourning

The Angwan Rukuba attack occurred on Sunday night, sending shockwaves across Jos and beyond. At least 27 residents were confirmed dead, while several others sustained injuries in what authorities described as a coordinated assault.

The tragedy deepened national anxiety, especially as it followed another violent incident in Kahir village, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where wedding guests were reportedly killed and abducted.

Earlier in the week, Tinubu condemned both attacks in strong terms through a statement issued by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga.

“Anyone who will sneak under the cover of the night and kill defenceless citizens as done in Jos and Kahir village is a heartless coward,” the President said.

His physical presence in Plateau signals federal solidarity with victims and affected communities.

Presidential Directives and Security Response

In his initial reaction, the President directed security agencies to intensify efforts to pursue and apprehend those responsible for the killings.

He emphasized that the crimes would not go unpunished, reaffirming his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on violent criminality.

Security experts note that presidential visits to conflict zones often serve as a catalyst for stronger coordination between federal and state authorities.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who has been managing the state’s response since the attack, received commendation from the President for his efforts in containing tensions and preventing further escalation.

Observers say the Tinubu Visits Jos mission strengthens collaborative security strategies aimed at stabilizing Plateau State.

Warning Against Divisive Narratives

Beyond security operations, Tinubu cautioned sections of the media against suggesting that the attacks were religiously motivated without verified evidence.

He warned that speculative narratives could inflame tensions and trigger retaliatory violence in communities already grieving.

Plateau State has historically experienced complex conflicts involving ethnic, communal and land-related disputes. Analysts say oversimplified interpretations risk undermining peacebuilding efforts.

By urging responsible reporting, the President sought to prevent misinformation and maintain calm during a fragile period.

Kaduna Attack Raises Broader Alarm

The separate incident in Kahir village, Kagarko LGA of Kaduna State, where wedding guests were reportedly killed and abducted, has further heightened concerns over security in northern Nigeria.

Tinubu’s condemnation of both the Jos and Kaduna attacks reflects the interconnected nature of regional security challenges.

Community leaders have called for sustained intelligence-driven operations and deeper engagement with local stakeholders to address root causes of violence.

The Tinubu Visits Jos development therefore resonates beyond Plateau, signaling federal attention to broader instability patterns.

Symbolism and Substance

Condolence visits by sitting presidents carry both symbolic and strategic weight. For families mourning in Angwan Rukuba, the President’s presence offers acknowledgment of their pain at the highest level of government.

Political observers say such engagements also reinforce public confidence in national leadership during crises.

Tinubu’s administration has repeatedly emphasized security reform, intelligence coordination, and community partnership as pillars of its governance agenda.

While mourning continues, many Nigerians are watching closely to see how swiftly security agencies deliver tangible results.

A Call for Justice and Unity

The President’s message during the visit combined empathy with firmness mourning the victims while warning perpetrators.

Residents and civil society groups have urged security agencies to translate presidential directives into visible action to prevent recurrence.

For Plateau State, long considered one of Nigeria’s most historically volatile regions, sustainable peace remains a pressing priority.

As investigations continue into both the Angwan Rukuba killings and the Kaduna attack, expectations remain high that those responsible will be brought to justice.

For now, Jos stands united in grief but also in hope that decisive federal intervention will restore calm.

The Tinubu’s Visit Jos visit may mark a pivotal moment in renewed efforts to secure Plateau State and reassure Nigerians that violent attacks on innocent citizens will face the full weight of the law.
