‎ABUJA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced that troops of the Armed Forces, over the past week, eliminated dozens of terrorists, arrested 38 suspects and freed more than 50 kidnapped victims in coordinated operations nationwide.

‎The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Michael Onoja, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja.

‎He explained that operations conducted by various Joint Task Forces led to the seizure of automatic rifles, Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) launchers, machine guns, locally made firearms, materials used for manufacturing Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), live ammunition and other assorted weapons.

‎In the North-East, Onoja said troops under Operation Hadin Kai carried out intelligence-led missions across Borno, Yobe and Adamawa States, targeting Boko Haram and ISWAP elements. The operations covered Bama, Biu, Chibok, Damboa, Guzamala, Jere, Konduga, Mafa, Mobbar, Damaturu, Gombi and Maiha local government areas.

‎According to him, the missions resulted in the neutralisation of dozens of terrorists, eight arrests, the rescue of 11 abducted victims, and the recovery of weapons and logistics. He added that troops ambushed insurgents at Komala Village in Jere LGA, killing several fighters and seizing motorcycles, weapons and household items. Air strikes also tracked and eliminated terrorists in Chongolo Kura in Bama LGA and Abbagajere Village in Damboa LGA, destroying their hideouts.

‎In the North-West, troops of Operation Fansan Yamma neutralised several terrorists, rescued two kidnapped victims, and recovered weapons, vehicles and rustled livestock in Zamfara, Kano and Katsina States.

‎Within the North-Central region, personnel of Operations Savannah Shield, Enduring Peace and Whirl Stroke dislodged criminals from their enclaves during operations across Kwara, Niger, Plateau, Kaduna, Benue, Taraba and Kogi States. Sixteen suspects were arrested, 26 kidnapped victims freed, and arms, ammunition and motorcycles recovered.

‎In the South-South, Operation Delta Safe thwarted oil theft activities, dismantled nine illegal refining sites, apprehended 11 suspects, and seized arms and ammunition in Rivers and Bayelsa States.

‎Meanwhile, in the South-East, Operation Udo Ka carried out cordon-and-search operations in Ebonyi, Abia, Anambra, Cross River, Enugu and Imo States, leading to the arrest of eight terrorists and the recovery of weapons and ammunition.

‎Onoja further stated that the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, praised the troops for their bravery and resilience, assuring Nigerians of continued offensives, enhanced inter-agency cooperation and sustained efforts to restore peace and security across the country.
