University of Abuja launches search for missing 100-level student

‎…the university community is “deeply worried about her safety” and appealed for “any timely information that could assist in her safe return.”

‎‎ABUJA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | The University of Abuja (UniAbuja) has appealed to the public for help in locating one of its students who has been reported missing.

‎In a statement on Thursday, signed by the Acting Director of Information and University Relations, Dr. Habib Yakoob, the university identified the student as Sadiya Usman, a 100-level Accounting student.

‎The statement said she “was reported missing after leaving her residence at Kontagora Estate, Gwagwalada, Abuja, at around 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, 18 February 2026.” She was reportedly on her way to the institution Main Campus to sit for her CBT examination (GST 111) and “has not been seen since.”

‎According to the statement, her guardian reported that “all efforts to contact her have been unsuccessful, as her phone remains unreachable and her current whereabouts are unknown.”

‎The institution added that it has “activated internal safety protocols” and is “working closely with relevant authorities to ensure every necessary measure is taken to locate the student quickly and safely.”

‎Expressing concern for her wellbeing, the institution said the university community is “deeply worried about her safety” and appealed for “any timely information that could assist in her safe return.”

‎Members of the public who may have seen Sadiya Usman or have information about her whereabouts are urged to contact the nearest police station or the University’s Directorate of Safety.

‎The institution reaffirmed its commitment to “the welfare and security of all its students” and promised to provide updates as they become available.
