…Wike also cautioned governorship aspirants against relying on what he described as premature.
ABUJA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims that he has endorsed any candidate for the Rivers State governorship race.
Wike made the clarification during a stakeholders’ meeting involving members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), held at his official residence in Life Camp, Abuja.
He emphasized that the responsibility of selecting candidates lies solely with the Elders Council, led by Ferdinand Alabraba, stressing that no individual has the authority to make such decisions unilaterally.
“I have not endorsed any candidate for the governorship seat in Rivers State. Such a decision is the sole responsibility of the Elders Council led by Chief Ferdinand Alabraba,” he stated.
The minister, however, reaffirmed his political alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that his support for the president remains his only current political commitment.
Wike also cautioned governorship aspirants against relying on what he described as premature endorsements, warning that no sitting governor has the power to impose a candidate on the people of Rivers State.
He added that the state must avoid repeating past political missteps and urged stakeholders to remain united, stressing that their collective strength lies in cohesion rather than financial influence.
