…as Kachikwu dares the coalition leaders to publicly declare that the 2027 presidential ticket would be zoned to the South.
The iNews Times reports that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition is embroiled in controversy following allegations made by its 2023 presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu.
According to Kachikwu, a faction of the party led by former Senate President David Mark is deliberately structured to produce former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the party’s 2027 presidential flag bearer.
Kachikwu who spoke to journalists in Abuja on Thursday stated that during a meeting with the coalition, they expressed interest in reclaiming power, which he believes is code for supporting Atiku’s candidacy.
He dared the coalition leaders to prove him wrong by publicly declaring that the 2027 presidential ticket would be zoned to the South.
Kachikwu emphasized, “The Coalition was engineered and designed to produce Atiku Abubakar as the standard flag bearer. If not, I challenge them to make a statement that the ADC 2027 Presidential ticket is for Southerners. All they were saying during my meeting with them was that they wanted to take their power back.”
The iNews Times reports that the opposition coalition, which includes prominent figures such as Atiku Abubakar, has adopted the ADC as its platform to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s administration in the 2027 general elections.
David Mark has been appointed as the interim national chairman of the party, while Rauf Aregbesola serves as the interim national secretary.
Kachikwu’s allegations have sparked concerns about the party’s future and its potential impact on the 2027 elections.
He has accused the coalition of being more interested in self-serving than genuinely caring about Nigerians’ welfare.
This is not the first time Kachikwu has clashed with the ADC. He was previously expelled from the party along with his running mate, Ahmed Rufai, after the party’s special convention in 2022.
The party’s leadership, then headed by Ralph Nwosu, cited Kachikwu’s lack of a campaign manifesto and working against the party’s interest as reasons for his expulsion.
The controversy surrounding the ADC’s leadership and the opposition coalition’s intentions has sparked concerns about the party’s future and its potential impact on the 2027 elections.
