…commends the state leadership of the AICC for what he described as relentless efforts to ensure the party’s success in the ADC 2027 presidential election.
Amawbia, Nigeria — The iNews Times | The ADC 2027 presidential election campaign gained momentum in Anambra State as a 20-man executive of the ADC Independent Campaign Council (AICC) was inaugurated to support the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 presidential poll.
Speaking during the inauguration in Amawbia, the state chairman of ADC, Patrick Obianyo, said the party was targeting the registration of 100,000 members in preparation for the 2027 presidential election.
Obianyo disclosed that about 22,000 members had already been registered but lamented delays that slowed the registration process.
According to him, traffic challenges caused the late commencement of the exercise, which affected the number of members registered so far.
“We want to ensure ADC is the only vehicle that can take Nigerians to the promised land. Peter Obi is the only capable candidate for a new Nigeria,” he said.
He added, however, that if Obi eventually does not emerge as the ADC presidential candidate, he would remain loyal to the party and support whoever emerges as the flag bearer.
“However, if Obi does not win to be the ADC candidate, as a loyal party man, I do not have any option other than to support the party and move it forward,” he added.
Obianyo described the newly elected 20-man state executive of the AICC as a support group established to strengthen the party’s structure ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
He said the group was determined to secure victory for ADC in order to end what he described as the suffering of Nigerians under the administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In his post-inauguration speech, the state coordinator of AICC, Hon. Celestine Osunkwo, expressed satisfaction with the exercise.
He revealed that the structure of the campaign council would extend to wards, local government areas and the state level to ensure proper mobilisation and awareness for the 2027 presidential election.
According to him, each ward and local government area would have 20 executive members responsible for mobilising support for the party.
“Online registration is currently ongoing and we are mobilising people and providing them with data support. We will give ADC 100 per cent support,” he said.
Osunkwo also urged members of the AICC to collaborate with ADC chairmen at various levels to ensure adequate awareness and mobilisation ahead of the election.
Also speaking, the Financial Secretary of the council, Stanley Ajah, said the newly inaugurated executive members were committed to working towards victory for the party.
“We are expected to work towards delivering ADC. All of us should sit up because it is our responsibility to deliver the party,” he stated.
The Anambra South Coordinator, Hon. Victor Nwawuzie, commended the state leadership of the AICC for what he described as relentless efforts to ensure the party’s success in the ADC 2027 presidential election.
“All of us know why we are here today to deliver Peter Obi, who is our own, as the next president of Nigeria. Everybody is suffering because of the administration of the APC-led Federal Government,” he said.
A chieftain of the council, Hon. Engr. Nwosu Emmanuel, recalled how he and others worked to ensure the victory of Bola Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election but later became disappointed over what he described as unfulfilled campaign promises.
“I was a strong member of the Tinubu/Shettima ticket until many Nigerians turned against him because the promises made during the campaign were not fulfilled,” he said.
He explained that two major promises made to Nigerians included ending the dual currency market and ensuring that crude oil would be sold to the Dangote Refinery in naira, while petrol would also be sold in naira to reduce pressure on the dollar.
He claimed that these expectations had not been realised.
The National Coordinator of the AICC, Jaja A. Ibiam, was represented at the event by the South-East Zonal Secretary, Hon. Frank Okoli.
