…postponing the Exams will disrupt the entire schedule of the SSCE – NECO

ABUJA, NIGERIA – The iNews Times reports that the National Examinations Council (NECO) has confirmed that its ongoing Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) will proceed as scheduled on Tuesday, despite the public holiday declared by the Federal Government in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Nigerian government on Monday announced a seven-day national mourning period, including a public holiday on Tuesday.

The development sparked confusion among students, parents, and school authorities over the fate of the critical national exams.

However, NECO’s Head of Public Affairs, Mr. Azeez Sani, disclosed that the examination timetable remains unchanged nationwide.

“The exam involving three papers – Physics, Financial Accounting, and Basic Electricity–will hold tomorrow (Tuesday). We can’t afford to postpone it; doing so will disrupt the entire schedule of the SSCE,” Sani stated firmly.

In Lagos, the State Coordinator of NECO, Mr. A.S. Adedoyin, also issued a formal notice to school authorities, emphasizing that the examination will go on without interruption.

“Despite the public holiday declared tomorrow (Tuesday) in honour of the Late President Muhammadu Buhari, our exams will proceed as scheduled,” Adedoyin wrote, urging principals to ensure that all candidates are present and ready.

The clarification is expected to douse the anxiety that had gripped many schools and families over the status of the national examination in the wake of the sudden holiday announcement.
