ABEOKUTA, NIGERIA – The iNews Times | Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have raided the Green Legacy Hotel, situated within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) premises in Abeokuta, Ogun State, arresting several youths suspected to be involved in internet fraud.

The operation, carried out in the early hours of Sunday, reportedly targeted a pool party at the hotel and left guests scrambling for safety amid the sound of gunshots. Eyewitness videos circulating online show crowds fleeing the scene as EFCC operatives moved in.

According to sources, the raid was conducted by officials from the EFCC’s Lagos Directorate, who seized more than 20 luxury cars along with other valuables during the operation. The exact number of arrests remains unclear.

The incident comes just five days after the EFCC’s Ibadan Zonal Directorate arrested 56 suspects, including one found with two locally-made pistols during a raid at K-Hotel in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State.

One social media user, identified as A. Ayomide, recounted narrowly missing the raid. “Literally left my house past midnight to go to OOPL… Left around 1:30, 20 minutes later I get home and I’m getting calls that EFCC is raiding OOPL,” he posted on X.

The Managing Director of OOPL Ventures, Vitalis Ortese, confirmed the incident but withheld further details. “Yes, they did. There was an incident this morning. We will find out and we will let you know,” he told The iNews Times.

When contacted, EFCC spokesperson for the Lagos zonal command, Ayo Oyewole, said he was not yet aware of the operation but would provide updates. The Commission’s national spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, also promised to verify the details and respond accordingly.

The EFCC has intensified anti-cybercrime operations across the country in recent months, targeting hotels and entertainment venues believed to be hotspots for internet fraud activities.
