…the court restrained the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from holding its planned National Convention, scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State

ABUJA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja has once again restrained the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from going ahead with its planned National Convention scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The convention was intended to elect new national officers to oversee the party’s affairs.

Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, through an ex parte motion filed by his counsel, Jephthah Njikonye, SAN, sought an interim court order restraining the PDP from holding the planned convention pending the hearing and determination of the substantive motion on notice.

In his ruling on Tuesday, the trial judge, Justice Peter Lifu, held that the plaintiff’s application had merit and was accordingly granted.

As a result, the court restrained the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from holding its planned National Convention, scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State, pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.

The court also barred the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from monitoring or recognising the PDP’s national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State, pending the hearing of the substantive suit filed by the plaintiff.

Justice Lifu noted that the plaintiff, as a bona fide party member with a vested interest in the position of national chairman, would suffer greater harm if the court did not grant the relief sought in the motion.

He further stated that he saw no reason to depart from the ruling of Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, delivered on October 31, 2025, which had similarly halted the PDP’s national convention and restrained INEC from monitoring or recognising it.
