ABUJA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, has denounced reports claiming he is among those funding terrorism in the country.

Terrorism financiers are persons or organisations that supply or gather money knowing, or intending, that the funds will be used to support terrorist activities, individual terrorists, or terrorist groups.

Emefiele, in a statement, dismissed the allegation as false, insisting it was concocted to damage his reputation.

Emefiele said, “I state categorically and unequivocally that this allegation is completely fabricated, baseless, and a deliberate attempt to malign my name, mislead the public, and create confusion for reasons known only to those behind it.

“The fight against terrorism is far too important to be trivialised by irresponsible reporting. Nigerians deserve better than such reckless misinformation.

“At no point during my public service or private life have I been involved in any activity linked to terrorism, terrorist financing, or anything that threatens our national peace and security. I have never been invited, questioned, or investigated over any terrorism-financing allegation, nor have I ever met or interacted with the individual who granted that interview.

“There is absolutely no truth in the claim. It is a product of mischief, crafted by misguided individuals for their own questionable motives. I urge the public to completely disregard it, and I call on the press to avoid publishing falsehoods or sensational claims without evidence, verification, or due diligence.”
