Rivers Assembly Shuns Fubara’s Christmas Gesture, Wike Kicks Against Automatic Ticket

…The service marked the first public appearance of Fubara and his deputy since the Rivers State House of Assembly initiated new impeachment proceedings against him

RIVERS, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has returned to Port Harcourt following a recent foreign trip, the details and destination of which remain undisclosed.

On Sunday, he attended a service at St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church, Port Harcourt, in observance of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day. His deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu, along with other senior government officials, were also in attendance.

The service marked the first public appearance of Fubara and his deputy since the Rivers State House of Assembly initiated new impeachment proceedings against him last Thursday, his third removal attempt in under three years.

The Armed Forces Remembrance Day service honours Nigerian military personnel who have laid down their lives for the country’s unity and sovereignty, featuring prayers for both the fallen and those still serving.

Amid the renewed political tension, Fubara’s administration has remained silent regarding the allegations of gross misconduct raised by the state House of Assembly.

Earlier reports indicated that a reliable source confirmed Fubara departed the country on a private jet last Thursday, reportedly to meet with President Tinubu in France, during the impeachment saga.
