Nigerian Army Achieves Milestone as Militants Voluntarily Surrender in Cross River

…troops launched a raid on Munhaye Forest, a known hideout of notorious bandit leader

SOKOTO, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | Troops of the Joint Task Force, North West, under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have achieved significant breakthroughs, killing terrorists in Kebbi State and rescuing 62 abducted persons in Zamfara State as efforts to restore peace in the region intensify.

In Kebbi, soldiers attached to Sector 2, acting on credible intelligence, laid an ambush for suspected members of the Lakurawa terrorist group around Kerani Village near Augie Local Government Area, close to the Kebbi–Sokoto border, an axis often used by criminal gangs.

Two terrorists were neutralised during the operation, while two motorcycles used for movement and logistics were recovered. The motorcycles, fitted with long-range accessories, indicated plans for sustained cross-border criminal activities.

Security sources said the operation was carried out in collaboration with other security agencies and local vigilante groups, highlighting improved cooperation between security forces and community-based actors in the North West.

Meanwhile, in Zamfara State, troops launched a raid on Munhaye Forest, a known hideout of notorious bandit leader Kachalla Alti, following intelligence reports that captives were being held there.

The operation resulted in the rescue of 62 kidnapped victims, who are now in safe custody. Military authorities said arrangements are being made to reunite the freed victims with their families after profiling and medical evaluation.
