Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have successfully rescued a 13-year-old girl who was allegedly kidnapped for ritual purposes in Umuojor village, Ishiagu community, Ezeagu Local Government Area of the state, iNews Times reports.

According to a statement by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the operation, which was carried out in collaboration with Neighbourhood Watch personnel and community members, led to the arrest of three male suspects: Uche Kingsley Agumba, 33; Ilo Nweze Onyedikachi, 36; and Ejike Odinwankpa, 38.

However, the prime suspect, High Chief Levi Onyeka Obu, also known as “Ezeani” and “E-Dey-Play-E-Dey-Show,” a native doctor and prominent community member, fled the scene during the operation and is currently at large.

Ndukwe noted that the police have launched an intensified manhunt for the suspect.

The PPRO disclosed that during the rescue operation, two decomposing bodies, one male and one female, were discovered buried in a concrete-sealed pit within an uncompleted building owned by the prime suspect and used as a shrine.

“Investigations revealed that the victims were recently murdered and buried in the pit for ritual purposes,” he said.

In accordance with the laws of the state, the government has demolished buildings owned by the prime suspect and used for the criminal enterprise.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has commended the efforts of the police operatives, local security groups, and community members who contributed to the success of the operation.

The CP has directed the Command’s Tactical Squads and Investigation and Intelligence Units to intensify efforts in tracking down the fleeing suspect and other accomplices still at large, with a firm resolve to ensure justice is served.
