‎Anambra Assembly Okays Anti-Corruption Law

‎…Anambra State House of Assembly Speaker, said the commission is required to submit periodic progress reports to the Office of the Governor

‎‎ANAMBRA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | The Anambra State House of Assembly has enacted a bill establishing the Anambra State Public Complaints, Financial Crimes and Anti-Corruption Commission.

‎The bill was passed on Thursday during plenary after lawmakers reviewed and adopted amendments made at the Committee of the Whole stage.

‎The motion for the third reading was moved by the Majority Leader, Ikenna Ofodeme, and seconded by the Deputy Minority Leader, Nobel Igwe.

‎Presiding over the session, the Speaker of the House, Somtochukwu Udeze, praised the joint committee for its thorough work in refining the bill ahead of its passage.

‎The Speaker subsequently subjected the bill to a voice vote, which received unanimous approval from members.

‎Udeze announced that the law will take effect on February 17.

‎He explained that the newly created commission will be tasked with investigating financial crimes and corruption-related matters involving the finances and assets of the State Government.

‎According to him, the commission will assume responsibility for such investigations from any other agency or authority within the state and will oversee all corruption-related cases under its mandate.

Anambra State House of Assembly Speaker, Somtochukwu Udeze, added that the commission is required to submit periodic progress reports to the Office of the Governor and the Anambra State House of Assembly.

‎He further stated that the law contains provisions aimed at protecting residents and indigenes from injustice arising from administrative actions taken under its implementation.

‎“Special attention will be given to probing any administrative act that appears to violate existing laws and regulations,” the Speaker said.
