ANAMBRA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man, Chibunna Nwafor, in connection with the killing of a pregnant nurse in Ogbunike, located in Oyi Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect, popularly known as “Offonwadile” and alleged to be a native doctor, was accused of collaborating with members of his gang to murder the nurse, mutilate her body, and transport the remains to his shrine.
Reports indicate that the victim was lured to her friend’s residence in July 2025 under the guise of providing medical assistance, where she was allegedly killed. The friend was apprehended on July 29, 2025, through community efforts, while the alleged prime suspect reportedly fled.
In a statement released on Friday, the police spokesperson disclosed that the prime suspect was eventually arrested on February 11, 2026, following sustained intelligence operations and cooperation from members of the community.
According to the command’s spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect was tracked to his hideout in Umueri community, Anambra East Local Government Area, as investigations into the incident continued. He added that the suspect has been transferred to a higher investigative unit for further discreet inquiries.
The statement partly read that the Command, through collaborative community efforts and intelligence gathering, secured the arrest of one of the principal suspects in the gruesome killing. It noted that the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, commended residents for their cooperation and assured that everyone linked to the crime would be brought to justice.
The police further stated that investigations are ongoing and that additional updates would be communicated as the case progresses.
In July 2025, Punch Online reported that the Police Command had earlier arrested another suspect in connection with the case and recovered mutilated human body parts from a native doctor’s shrine. During questioning, the suspect allegedly confessed to selling body parts to various native doctors within the area.
