‎‎ABUJA, NIGERIA | The iNews Times | The President Bola Tinubu has congratulated winners of Saturday’s elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kano and Rivers states, urging them to treat their mandates as a “sacred trust.”

‎In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President said the Independent National Electoral Commission conducted polls across the six FCT area councils and held by-elections in Ahoada East II and Khana II state constituencies in Rivers State, as well as Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies in Kano State.

‎According to results declared so far by INEC, the All Progressives Congress won in Abaji, Kwali, AMAC and Bwari, while the Peoples Democratic Party clinched Gwagwalada. In the Rivers State by-elections, the APC secured both available seats.

‎President Tinubu called on the elected officials to serve with humility, patriotism and dedication, stressing that the mandate given by voters must be upheld with integrity.

‎He also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for what he described as remarkable achievements in the territory, noting that the efforts had translated into political gains for the ruling APC.

‎The President further congratulated the APC’s national leadership, as well as its Kano and Rivers State chapters, on the victories recorded at the polls.

‎He praised INEC, security agencies and voters for ensuring a peaceful and successful exercise, and acknowledged what he termed the courage and discipline of all contestants, adding that democracy thrives on participation and healthy competition.

‎Tinubu maintained that the successful conduct of the elections strengthens Nigeria’s democratic institutions and urged INEC to sustain efforts at improving electoral processes.

‎However, reports indicated low voter turnout in parts of the affected areas, while opposition parties alleged irregularities. Earlier, the PDP inaugurated a special legal team to pursue election petitions arising from the FCT Area Council polls.
