ABUJA, NIGERIA — The iNews Times | President Bola Tinubu has formally nominated Mr Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance, a key position in his administration’s ongoing drive to strengthen fiscal reforms, replacing Dr Doris Anite-Uzoka, who has been redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning.

Oyedele’s Background and Expertise

A native of Ikaram in Akoko, Ondo State, Taiwo Oyedele, 50, is an economist, accountant, and public policy expert with more than two decades of professional experience. He holds a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology and a Bachelor of Science in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.

Oyedele’s credentials include executive programs at the London School of Economics, Yale University, Gordon Institute of Business Science, and Harvard Kennedy School. Prior to his nomination, he chaired the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, leading a comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria’s tax system.

Professional and Academic Track Record

Oyedele spent 22 years at PwC, joining in 2001 and rising to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader. He currently serves as a professor at Babcock University and a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School, blending practical fiscal experience with academic expertise.

Should the Senate confirm his appointment, Taiwo Oyedele will assume office at a time when the Tinubu administration is prioritising revenue reforms, tax efficiency, and sustainable economic management.

Cabinet Realignment: Anite-Uzoka Redeployed

Dr Doris Anite-Uzoka, who had previously held ministerial portfolios in the current administration, now moves to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State. This marks her third ministerial assignment under President Tinubu, highlighting ongoing strategic reshuffles aimed at strengthening government efficiency.

Outlook for Fiscal Policy

Analysts see Oyedele’s nomination as a move to reinforce Nigeria’s fiscal architecture and accelerate policy reforms that ensure transparency and effective revenue mobilisation. The Senate confirmation process is expected to review his extensive experience in fiscal policy and public finance management before he officially assumes duties.
