Pete Edochie’s ₦40,000 Daily Power Bill Sparks Fresh Debate on Nigeria Electricity Crisis

…Pete Edochie’s remarks mirror growing frustration among Nigerians over inconsistent electricity supply.

Lagos, Nigeria — The iNews Times reports that veteran Nollywood actor, Pete Edochie, has expressed frustration over the Nigeria electricity crisis, revealing that he spends about ₦40,000 daily to keep his home powered.

The 78-year-old actor made the disclosure during an interview with African Independent Television on Thursday, where he broke down the rising cost of electricity and alternative power sources in his household.

According to Edochie, he spends ₦10,000 daily purchasing electricity units from the national power distribution company. In addition, he spends ₦20,000 running a diesel generator, while another ₦10,000 goes into fueling a petrol generator, bringing his daily energy expenses to about ₦40,000.

Lamenting the situation, the actor said the burden reflects the harsh realities many Nigerians face due to the Nigeria electricity crisis and unreliable power supply.

“On the whole, I spend forty thousand every single day on light. It disturbs me a big deal. Then I listen to people who are only interested in getting into politics and enjoying power. Nobody seems to be bothered about what is happening to the common man,” Pete Edochie said.

The actor’s remarks mirror growing frustration among Nigerians over inconsistent electricity supply across the country.

In recent weeks, social media platforms have been flooded with complaints from electricity consumers who say power supply remains limited despite the government’s tiered electricity distribution system.

Under the arrangement, customers classified under Band A are theoretically entitled to receive up to 20 hours of electricity daily, but many consumers have reported receiving as little as five hours of supply in some areas.

Pete Edochie’s comments have now added momentum to the ongoing national debate surrounding the Nigeria electricity crisis, highlighting the heavy financial burden on households that rely on generators to supplement unreliable grid power.
