Care365 partnership with SiliconHub introduces tech-driven medical services to boost campus healthcare access.

AWKA, NIGERIA – The iNews Times | The UNIZIK Smart Healthcare Initiative has taken off in full force as the Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University https://unizik.edu.ng, Professor Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, unveiled mobile clinics and digital health monitoring solutions designed to transform medical services on campus.

The initiative, powered through the Care365 platform in partnership with SiliconHub Limited, signals a new chapter in the university’s drive toward innovation-led healthcare delivery, with mobile units now strategically positioned to serve students and staff more efficiently.

In this report, we examine the key developments, reactions from stakeholders, and the broader implications.

Background of the Story

Over the years, Nigerian universities have grappled with overstretched medical facilities, delayed consultations, and limited access to preventive healthcare services.

At Nnamdi Azikiwe University, popularly known as UNIZIK, expanding student population and growing healthcare demands have intensified the need for smarter, tech-driven solutions.

The UNIZIK Smart Healthcare Initiative emerges at a time when institutions globally are integrating digital health tools, telemedicine, and mobile medical services to enhance responsiveness and accessibility.

The Vice-Chancellor’s administration has consistently emphasized innovation and student-centred development, with healthcare reform forming a core component of its broader transformation agenda.

Key Developments

Under the initiative, one mobile clinic has been stationed at the University Medical Centre, while another has been deployed to the Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Female Hostel to bring healthcare services closer to students’ residences.

The deployment integrates modern digital health monitoring systems, enabling real-time medical assessments, on-site consultations, routine screenings, immunization support and rapid response to medical emergencies.

Telemedicine access has also been embedded into the system, allowing students and staff to connect with specialists when required, thereby bridging potential gaps in specialist care.

The UNIZIK Smart Healthcare Initiative is expected to reduce congestion at existing campus health facilities while strengthening preventive healthcare culture through regular check-ups and early diagnosis.

SiliconHub Limited, a United States and Nigeria-based technology company and product owner of the Care365 Health Hub, is spearheading the digital backbone of the programme.

The company’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Ngozi Joseph Odumuko, an alumnus of the university, has positioned the collaboration as a model for integrating technology into institutional healthcare systems.

Reactions from Stakeholders

The Director of Medical Services, Dr. Jane Nkolika Ezeonu, described the deployment as a remarkable milestone achieved within a short period of the current administration.

“This is a forward-thinking intervention. The Vice-Chancellor has demonstrated clear commitment to healthcare innovation. These mobile clinics will significantly enhance access to medical services and ease the burden on our facilities,” she said.

Students at the Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Female Hostel expressed enthusiasm over the decision to locate one of the clinics within their residential environment.

One student representative noted that the initiative would “make healthcare more convenient and less intimidating,” especially during emergencies and late-hour medical needs.

Implications

The UNIZIK Smart Healthcare Initiative reflects a broader shift toward digitized campus ecosystems, where technology supports welfare, safety and productivity.

By prioritising preventive healthcare and early diagnosis, the university may reduce long-term medical costs, absenteeism and academic disruptions linked to untreated health conditions.

The initiative also positions UNIZIK as a potential benchmark for other Nigerian universities seeking sustainable healthcare solutions.

Beyond the campus, the collaboration with SiliconHub Limited demonstrates how alumni-driven partnerships can fuel institutional development and innovation.

What Happens Next

University authorities are expected to monitor the performance of the mobile clinics and digital systems, with possible expansion to additional hostels and faculties depending on demand and outcomes.

Further integration of data-driven health analytics and expanded telemedicine services may follow as part of the long-term strategy.

Stakeholders anticipate that the initiative could attract additional partnerships and research opportunities in digital health innovation.

Conclusion

The UNIZIK Smart Healthcare Initiative marks a decisive step toward modern, accessible and technology-driven healthcare delivery within Nigeria’s tertiary education sector.

Under Professor Anyaehie’s leadership, the university continues to align innovation with student welfare, reinforcing its commitment to a healthier and more responsive campus environment.
