Ilorin, Nigeria — The iNews Times reports that the Kwara State Police Command has arrested a 15-year-old boy, Gobri Yusuf, over the alleged killing of his aunt who adopted and raised him in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

The Kwara teenage murder case was disclosed on Friday by the Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, during a press briefing at the police headquarters in Ilorin.

According to the police commissioner, the suspect was apprehended following a distress report received by the command concerning the discovery of a woman identified as Akanbi A. lying in a pool of blood at her residence.

“On January 14, 2026, at about 20:30 hours, a distress report was received concerning the discovery of one Akanbi A (female) in a pool of blood at her residence. Police operatives responded immediately and commenced a discreet investigation,” Ojo said.

Preliminary findings in the murder investigation revealed that the suspect, who had been living with the deceased, allegedly hid behind a door and attacked the victim while she was bathing.

The police said the 15-year-old reportedly used several household items during the attack.

“Findings revealed that the suspect, who was residing with the deceased, concealed himself behind a door and attacked her while she was bathing using household items,” the commissioner stated.

Items recovered from the suspect include a frying pan, a weighing scale, a kitchen turning stick, and kitchen knives, which police believe were used during the assault.

Ojo further disclosed that the suspect allegedly confessed to committing the crime during interrogation.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed that the act was motivated by resentment and disclosed that previous attempts to poison the deceased had failed,” the police commissioner said.

Investigators also revealed that after the alleged attack, the 15-year-old changed his clothes and left the residence under the pretext of running an errand.

According to the police, he later contacted the deceased’s husband, who returned home and discovered his wife’s lifeless body.

The commissioner confirmed that the suspect remains in police custody while the Kwara teenage murder investigation continues.
