Ibadan, Nigeria — The iNews Times reports that suspected political thugs have launched an attack on the PDP congress in Oyo, disrupting local government congresses organised by members of the faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The PDP congress attack in Oyo occurred on Saturday while the faction’s local government congresses were ongoing in different parts of the state.
Sources told The iNews Times that the opposition party in the state is currently divided into two factions, one aligned with Wike and the other loyal to the Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde.
The congresses organised by the Wike-aligned faction were scheduled to hold across local government areas on Saturday before suspected political thugs stormed some venues and disrupted the exercise.
Witnesses said the suspected political thugs assaulted party members and vandalised several vehicles during the incident.
Preliminary reports indicate that about 10 people were attacked, while a number of vehicles were damaged.

Chairman of the faction loyal to Wike in the state, Abdulrahman Akinoso, confirmed the PDP congress attack in Oyo during a telephone conversation on Saturday afternoon.
According to him, the attacks were recorded in several local government areas, including Ibadan North, Ogbomoso North, Ibarapa Central, and Akinyele.
“Our local government congresses were attacked across Oyo State, Ibadan North, Ogbomoso South, Igboora (Ibarapa Central), and Akinyele,” Akinoso said.
He added that three vehicles were vandalised at Gbolarumi House, Are Avenue, Bodija in Ibadan North, while multiple party members sustained injuries during the disruptions.
“Three vehicles in Ibadan North at Gbolarumi House, Are Avenue, Bodija. About 10 people were attacked across the state,” he added.
The incident has heightened political tensions within the Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo State as the rivalry between the two factions continues to deepen.
