ANAMBRA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State and his deputy, Onyekachukwu Ibezim, have been inaugurated for a second term in office at a ceremony held on Tuesday at the newly refurbished Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka.
Soludo took the oath of office alongside his deputy at about 11:05 a.m., with the state Chief Judge, Onochie Anyachebelu, administering both the oath of office and allegiance to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The governor and his deputy were joined by their wives and family members during the ceremony.
Among dignitaries present were Vice President Kashim Shettima, as well as former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan.
Earlier reports had confirmed the arrival of Shettima, Obasanjo, and Jonathan in Anambra State for the event. Other prominent figures, including elder statesman Emeka Anyaoku, were also expected in attendance.
The ceremony, held at the renovated Alex Ekwueme Square, drew traditional rulers from all 179 communities in the state, alongside monarchs from other parts of Nigeria.
Soludo, who was re-elected on November 8, 2025, under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, had mobilised supporters from all 326 political wards across the state for the inauguration.
Security was heightened across Anambra, with personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Federal Road Safety Corps, and other agencies deployed to key locations.
The swearing-in followed the conclusion of the governor’s first term, which ended on Sunday with an interdenominational thanksgiving service held at the International Convention Centre.
