‎EBONYI, NIGERIA- The iNews Times| Wife of the Ebonyi State Governor, Mary-Maudline Nwifuru, has paid medical bills totaling ₦3.2 million for 16 indigent patients at the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital in Abakaliki.

Mrs. Nwifuru settled the bills during a visit to the male and female surgical wards of the hospital on Friday as part of activities marking the Easter celebration.

Addressing the beneficiaries, Mrs. Nwifuru urged them not to lose hope despite their challenges, encouraging them to remain steadfast in prayer and faith.

The intervention, according to the News Agency of Nigeria, is part of her broader efforts to provide financial relief to indigent patients facing economic hardship in the state.

Reacting to the gesture, the Head of the Medical Social Work Department at the hospital, Dr. Sorochi Otu, commended the governor’s wife for her sustained commitment to humanitarian causes.

Beyond the hospital, Mrs. Nwifuru also extended her outreach to other vulnerable groups. She paid the medical bills of indigent patients at the Rehabilitation Programme EFFATA in Ugbodo, Ebonyi Local Government Area, and provided financial assistance to the Trinitarian Foundation for Orphans and Helpless, as well as the Juvenile Remand Home.

Officials at the benefiting institutions, including Mr. Onyibe Nwiboko of EFFATA and Rev. Sister Mary-Agnes Onyejiechi of the foundation, expressed appreciation for her visit and generosity.

Similarly, Mr. Emmanuel Nkwuda of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development lauded her efforts, particularly her role in reconstructing the juvenile remand home.

Speaking on behalf of beneficiaries at the EFFATA facility, Mr. John Nweke conveyed gratitude for the visit and the distribution of relief materials and gifts, describing the gesture as timely and impactful during the Easter season.
