…assured the NDLEA of the agency’s willingness to collaborate.
ABIA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times|The Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Abia State Command, CN Chilee Chigbu, has disclosed that the Command operates one of the largest and most effective rehabilitation centres in Nigeria, dedicated to the treatment and recovery of individuals affected by drug abuse.
Chigbu made this known during a courtesy visit to the State Coordinator of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Mrs Nwachukwu Tessy, where she emphasized the importance of sustained support beyond rehabilitation.
She noted that while rehabilitation plays a critical role in recovery, it is not sufficient without proper reintegration into society. According to her, individuals who have undergone treatment require structured support systems to help them transition back into normal life.
The NDLEA Commander appealed to the NDE to introduce skill acquisition programmes for individuals currently undergoing treatment at the agency’s rehabilitation centre. She explained that equipping recovering drug users with practical vocational skills would enhance their ability to cope during and after recovery.
Chigbu further urged the NDE to consider providing employment opportunities for rehabilitated individuals, stressing that gainful engagement is crucial in preventing relapse and ensuring they remain productive members of society.
In her response, the Abia State Coordinator of the NDE, Mrs Nwachukwu Tessy, assured the NDLEA of the agency’s willingness to collaborate. She revealed that the NDE has a network of professional trainers across the state, capable of delivering training in over eighty different vocational skills.
She reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote self-reliance and economic empowerment, particularly for vulnerable groups.
