Ogoni MOSOP

…expresses frustration over corruption, loss of golden opportunity to develop the Ogoni region

The iNews Times reports that the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) has accused some individuals of looting $300 million meant for compensation and infrastructural development in Ogoni.

In a statement made available to iNews Times, the MOSOP President Fegalo Nsuke, stated that the funds were part of an out-of-court settlement with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC).

Speaking in Port Harcourt on June 3, 2025, Nsuke condemned the alleged loot, describing it as “genocide” against the region  and the Niger Delta.

He called on the government to initiate a probe to get the money returned and used for the benefit of the people.

“We are certain that some individuals shared the money ($300 million) amongst themselves and we cannot be crying of human rights violations in land while we do this to ourselves.

Nsuke emphasized that the funds could have addressed critical challenges faced by the Ogoni people, including water crisis, electricity, roads, and education needs.

“Some privileged individuals cannot continue to do this to our country while we remain silent. We want accountability.” Nsuke said.

The MOSOP leader expressed frustration over the corruption and loss of a golden opportunity to develop the region.

The group is urging the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take immediate action, warning that silence on the matter would indicate a lack of commitment to resolving the Ogoni problem.

MOSOP wants the funds to be used to address the development needs of the people and to pave the way for an easy resolution of the Ogoni crisis.
