…rescue of the Kidnapped GUO Passengers has once again highlighted persistent security concerns along the Benin–Lagos Expressway.

Benin City, Nigeria — The iNews Times | The dramatic rescue of Kidnapped GUO Passengers has brought relief to families and commuters after the Edo State Police Command confirmed that five travellers abducted along the Benin–Lagos Expressway were successfully rescued alive following a coordinated tactical operation.

Police authorities disclosed that the victims, who were travelling in a GUO transport bus, were intercepted by kidnappers along the busy highway corridor. However, swift security intervention led to their safe recovery without injuries.

The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, announced the breakthrough on Saturday, April 25, 2026, stating that the rescue was achieved through an immediate and large-scale deployment of tactical teams, intelligence units, aerial surveillance assets, and operational reinforcements ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika.

“The Edo State Police Command is pleased to inform the general public that all victims abducted during the recent kidnapping incident along the Benin–Lagos Expressway have been successfully rescued alive,” she said.

According to the Command, sustained bush-combing operations and strategic domination of the surrounding forest areas mounted pressure on the kidnappers, forcing them to abandon their captives.

The rescued victims have since undergone medical evaluation and have been reunited with their families.

The rescue of the Kidnapped GUO Passengers has once again highlighted persistent security concerns along the Benin–Lagos Expressway, one of Nigeria’s most commercially significant transport routes.

The highway serves as a critical link between Lagos, the nation’s economic nerve centre, and several southern and eastern states. Its heavy traffic flow makes it attractive to criminal elements seeking targets of opportunity.

Security analysts say that highway kidnappings often occur in isolated stretches where rapid intervention can be difficult without aerial support and intelligence coordination factors the Edo State Police Command appears to have leveraged in this operation.

The Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, reassured commuters that security presence along the corridor has now been significantly strengthened. He confirmed that tactical, intelligence, and operational deployments will remain active across the axis until the route is deemed completely safe.

Beyond the Kidnapped GUO Passengers rescue, the Command also confirmed the safe recovery of four other individuals who had been held captive earlier in the month within the Imiegba forest in Agenebode, Etsako East Local Government Area.

This brings the total number of rescued victims to nine in two separate incidents.

Police officials said the coordinated forest operations involved intelligence-led mapping of criminal hideouts and systematic area sweeps designed to dismantle kidnapping networks operating in the region.

Security observers note that forest corridors in parts of Edo State have increasingly been exploited by criminal groups due to their difficult terrain and limited accessibility. The recent tactical push suggests a deliberate effort to reclaim such spaces.

The successful recovery of the Kidnapped GUO Passengers signals a shift toward faster response cycles and integrated surveillance methods within the Edo State Command.

Public confidence in highway security has fluctuated in recent years due to sporadic kidnapping cases across Nigeria. Swift rescues like this play a significant role in restoring trust and discouraging criminal networks.

Commissioner Agbonika confirmed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend those responsible for the abduction. He expressed confidence that suspects would be tracked and brought to justice in the shortest possible time.

Security experts argue that beyond tactical deployment, long-term stability along major highways will depend on continuous intelligence gathering, community engagement, and inter-agency coordination.

For transport operators, especially interstate bus companies, the rescue of the Kidnapped GUO Passengers offers reassurance at a time when security concerns can directly affect passenger confidence and ticket sales.

Highway safety remains closely tied to regional commerce, supply chains, and mobility. Any disruption along the Benin–Lagos corridor carries economic implications beyond the immediate security threat.

The iNews Times understands that surveillance operations and patrol intensification continue across identified flashpoints.

As investigations deepen and manhunts continue, authorities say the message is clear: kidnapping networks will face sustained operational pressure.

The iNews Times will continue to monitor developments surrounding the Kidnapped GUO Passengers case and provide verified updates as security agencies pursue those responsible.
