Nwangwu criticises APC’s 11-year rule, urges Nigerians to obtain voter cards and embrace alternative platform.

NNEWI, NIGERIA – The iNews Times | The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has been endorsed as the vehicle for positive change by former Anambra State Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) https://peoplesdemocraticparty.com.ng, Mr. Nnamdi Nwangwu, who declared that the party represents a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking to journalists at his residence in Uruagu-Nnewi, Nwangwu argued that the Nigeria Democratic Congress offers a pathway to national renewal, insisting that continued APC leadership would deepen what he described as widespread socio-economic hardship across the country.

In this report, we examine the key developments, reactions from stakeholders, and the broader implications.

Background of the Story

Nigeria has been under APC leadership since 2015, spanning eleven years of federal control. During this period, the country has grappled with inflationary pressures, insecurity, unemployment and economic restructuring policies.

Political realignments have intensified in recent months as opposition figures seek new platforms ahead of future elections. Nwangwu’s declaration signals a notable shift from a former PDP spokesman aligning with the Nigeria Democratic Congress as a preferred political vehicle.

His comments come amid growing public debate over governance performance under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Key Developments

Addressing reporters, Nwangwu stated that the APC had failed to deliver on its promises, accusing the ruling party of presiding over economic decline and insecurity.

He claimed that eleven years of APC governance have “spelled doom” for ordinary Nigerians, alleging that only members of what he described as an “oppressive cabal” appear insulated from hardship.

“Everything has totally collapsed in Nigeria because of the cluelessness of individuals saddled with responsibility of piloting the affairs of Nigeria in the last eleven years. Nothing absolutely nothing is working,” he said.

He further linked insecurity to worsening hunger, arguing that banditry and terrorist activities have prevented farmers from accessing their farmlands, thereby aggravating food shortages.

“The level of insecurity has become an all-time high, with bandits and terrorists killing and maiming people while the government looks on,” Nwangwu alleged.

He also cited business closures and unemployment, noting that companies have shut down due to production constraints and lack of enabling policies.

According to him, the education sector continues to produce graduates without adequate employment opportunities, forcing many youths to seek livelihoods abroad.

“The reality of our existence today is that Nigerian youths prefer to stay abroad where they suffer indignities because the homeland does not offer credible alternatives,” he said.

Nwangwu maintained that the Nigeria Democratic Congress stands as the platform capable of delivering the “positive change Nigerians demand and deserve.”

He urged citizens to obtain their voter cards and prepare to participate actively in the democratic process.

Reactions from Stakeholders

As of press time, there had been no official response from APC representatives to Nwangwu’s remarks. However, political analysts say such endorsements reflect intensifying opposition mobilisation.

A political observer in Awka told The iNews Times that voter frustration often fuels interest in alternative political platforms.

“When economic hardship becomes widespread, emerging parties like the Nigeria Democratic Congress can gain visibility. The challenge, however, is building nationwide structure and trust,” the analyst noted.

Within political circles in Anambra State, reactions have been mixed, with some interpreting the move as strategic repositioning ahead of future elections.

Implications

Nwangwu’s endorsement of the Nigeria Democratic Congress underscores a broader search for alternative political alignments in Nigeria’s evolving democracy.

If figures with established political visibility continue to migrate or openly endorse new platforms, it could reshape opposition coalitions and influence voter sentiment.

The remarks also highlight persistent concerns around insecurity, inflation and unemployment issues likely to dominate political discourse in the coming electoral cycle.

Whether the Nigeria Democratic Congress can convert rhetoric into organised grassroots momentum remains a central question.

What Happens Next

Political actors are expected to intensify consultations, grassroots mobilisation and strategic alignments as the next electoral season approaches.

The Nigeria Democratic Congress may leverage endorsements such as Nwangwu’s to expand its visibility and articulate policy alternatives.

Meanwhile, the APC-led government is likely to defend its record and promote ongoing reforms as evidence of progress.

The iNews Times will continue to track political realignments and emerging narratives shaping Nigeria’s democratic landscape.

Conclusion

The declaration that the Nigeria Democratic Congress is the vehicle for positive change adds fresh momentum to Nigeria’s political conversation.

As economic and security concerns remain pressing, the coming months will determine whether alternative platforms like the NDC can transform public dissatisfaction into structured political advancement.

For now, the contest over Nigeria’s future direction appears to be entering a decisive phase.
