Ngozi Odu, Rivers State Deputy Governor Leaves PDP for APC

…Odu described her defection as a significant boost to the party’s strength in the local government area

RIVERS, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | Professor Ngozi Odu, the Deputy Governor of Rivers State, has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Her defection comes just weeks after Governor Siminalayi Fubara, alongside most state and federal lawmakers from Rivers State, exited the PDP to join the APC.

Professor Odu completed her registration into the APC on Sunday at Akabuka, Ward 8, Unit 11, in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area. Following the exercise, she embarked on a tour of the six zones within the LGA to mobilise residents and raise awareness about the ongoing APC electronic registration drive.

This development was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday in Port Harcourt by the Head of the Press Unit in the Office of the Deputy Governor, Owupele Benebo.

Speaking to stakeholders after her registration, Odu explained that the APC’s e-registration exercise commenced after Governor Fubara formally announced his decision to join the party several weeks ago. She urged residents to demonstrate their support for President Bola Tinubu and Governor Fubara by registering en masse with the APC.

According to her, the move is aimed at consolidating the support base of both the President and the Rivers State Governor, noting that six zonal meetings had already been held to advance the mobilisation effort.

“Today, I went round to sensitise the people, and at every location, large crowds turned out to receive us. They told us clearly that wherever I go, they will follow, and wherever Governor Fubara and President Tinubu go, they will also go,” Odu said.

She added that the enthusiasm witnessed across the six zones, Egi, Omoku, Osomini, Igburu, Egbema and Ndoni reflected growing acceptance of the APC at the grassroots level.

Odu described her defection as a significant boost to the party’s strength in the local government area and a clear indication of increasing alignment with the leadership of President Tinubu and Governor Fubara.

The statement further revealed that a major highlight of the tour was the defection of hundreds of Labour Party members in Ndoni to the APC, with the new entrants expressing excitement over joining the party.
