The inferno, which reportedly started around 9:00 a.m., affected shops located in a one-storey building housing electronics and electrical appliances. Property worth millions of naira was said to have been destroyed in the blaze.
Confirming the incident, the Anambra State Fire Chief, Chukwudi Chiketa, said firefighters were immediately deployed to the scene with necessary equipment to contain the situation.
“The affected building is a one-storey structure. The fire outbreak affected about five shops upstairs containing electronics and parts.
“The good part is that the fire has been controlled and there was no loss of life. Many shops upstairs and downstairs were saved,” he said.
Chiketa noted that the cause of the fire outbreak had yet to be ascertained but assured that investigations were ongoing.
He urged residents and traders to remain fire-conscious and emphasized the importance of preventive safety measures. The Fire Chief also advised shop owners to acquire fire extinguishers to serve as immediate first-response tools in case of emergencies.
