‎…the two victims were reportedly shot in the early hours of Sunday while heading to church.

‎‎ADAMAWA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | Two persons are feared dead following renewed clashes between the Chobo and Bachaman communities in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

‎Confirming the development to the iNews Times on Sunday, the spokesperson for the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said the violence broke out on Saturday night.

‎Nguroje explained that the police received information that suspected Chobo youths allegedly invaded Lamurde town, firing sporadically, which prompted Bachaman youths to mobilise and confront them.

‎He added that heavily armed police personnel had been deployed to the affected area to restore calm.

‎“We received a report last night that suspected Chobo youths invaded Lamurde town and were shooting sporadically, prompting the Bachaman youths to mobilise and confront them,” he said.

‎According to him, the police are still awaiting a comprehensive casualty report but assured that any confirmed updates would be made public promptly.

‎The iNews Times gathered that the latest violence is another flare-up in the long-running land dispute between the two communities. Within the past six months, spanning last year and this year, more than 30 people, mostly women have reportedly lost their lives in related attacks.

‎Last year, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri convened leaders of the feuding communities at the Government House in Yola in an attempt to broker peace. However, barely three days after the truce was reached, the violence resumed, leaving more than 18 people dead.

‎The state government had only recently lifted a curfew imposed on Lamurde after authorities believed the area had regained stability.

‎Local sources told iNews Times that the two victims were reportedly shot in the early hours of Sunday while heading to church.

‎As of the time of filing this report, the Adamawa State Government had yet to release an official statement on the incident.
