…the Easter masquerading warning was necessary to guide Christians back to the foundational message of salvation.

EKWULOBIA, Nigeria — The iNews Times reports that an Easter masquerading warning has been issued by the Anglican Bishop of Aguata Diocese, Rt. Rev. Samuel Ezeofor, who cautioned Christians against engaging in practices that contradict the true meaning of Easter.

Delivering his Easter message at the Chapel of Grace, Bishop’s Court, Ekwulobia, Anambra State, Bishop Ezeofor stressed that Easter has no connection with masquerading. He urged believers to ensure that whatever they engage in during the Easter period aligns with their Christian faith and does not undermine the essence of Christ’s resurrection.

According to the cleric, Easter represents the victory of Jesus Christ over sin, Satan and death. He warned that introducing practices inconsistent with Christian doctrine dilutes the spiritual significance of the celebration. The Easter masquerading warning, he said, was necessary to guide Christians back to the foundational message of redemption and salvation.

Bishop Ezeofor maintained that masquerading is not part of Christian worship or celebration. He described it as belonging to forces of darkness from which Jesus Christ came to deliver believers. He emphasized that Easter should remain a solemn yet joyful reflection on Christ’s sacrificial death and triumphant resurrection.

The bishop, who also serves as the National Chairman of the Evangelical Fellowship in the Anglican Communion (EFAC), described Easter as a season of victory and hope. He explained that Christ’s resurrection came after enduring intense spiritual and physical battles, including temptations, persecution and crucifixion.

“Easter is a time of joy and victory,” he stated, noting that Christ overcame Satan, sin and all forms of tribulation. He added that Christians must see Easter not merely as an annual event marked by festivities, but as a reminder of the transformative power of resurrection in their daily lives.

Reinforcing his Easter masquerading warning, Bishop Ezeofor challenged Christians to live above sin and reflect the victory of Christ in their conduct. He said the true celebration of Easter is demonstrated through righteous living, obedience to God’s word and a renewed commitment to faith.

He urged believers to examine their actions carefully during festive periods to ensure that their activities are consistent with Christian values. According to him, participating in practices that conflict with biblical teachings sends mixed signals about one’s faith and weakens spiritual testimony.

The bishop further emphasized that inheriting the kingdom of God requires intentional living and separation from practices that contradict the gospel. He encouraged Christians to uphold moral standards and remain steadfast in their spiritual walk, especially during significant seasons such as Easter.

Beyond spiritual reflection, Bishop Ezeofor also called on Christians to extend love and compassion to those around them. He enjoined believers to remember the needy and less privileged in society, stressing that acts of kindness and generosity are practical expressions of Christ’s resurrection power.

He noted that Easter should inspire a sense of belonging and unity within communities. By reaching out to the vulnerable, Christians embody the love and sacrifice that define the Easter message. According to him, sharing with the less privileged reinforces the joy and victory associated with the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Church observers say the Easter masquerading warning reflects ongoing debates within parts of the Christian community about cultural practices and their compatibility with Christian doctrine. While masquerading holds traditional significance in many communities, religious leaders like Bishop Ezeofor maintain that Christian celebrations must remain rooted in biblical teachings.

The bishop concluded his message by urging Christians to make Easter a reality in their lives, not merely through outward celebration but through inward transformation. He stressed that the resurrection of Christ should be evident in believers’ attitudes, decisions and relationships.

As Easter festivities continue across Anambra State and beyond, the message from the Aguata Diocese serves as a reminder that the season carries profound spiritual meaning. The iNews Times will continue to report on faith-based reflections and community responses during the Easter period.
