GOMBE, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | A sand-laden truck on Tuesday crashed into the main gate of the Gombe State Government House, leaving the structure badly damaged.
The incident occurred at about 12:55 p.m. and involved a gate being constructed as part of ongoing renovation projects under Governor Muhammadu Yahaya. The facility has not yet been officially commissioned.
Eyewitnesses said the driver lost control of the vehicle before it veered off the road and slammed into the multi-million-naira gate.
“I was across the road when I noticed the truck speeding towards the area. Suddenly, the driver appeared to lose control, and the vehicle swerved into the gate,” a trader, Musa Abdullahi, recounted.
Another witness, commercial motorcyclist Ibrahim Sadiq, noted that the situation could have been more severe if pedestrians had been nearby.
“It all happened within seconds. People ran for safety when they saw the truck approaching. Thankfully, no one was hurt,” he said.
A security aide, who preferred not to be named, confirmed that the crash caused serious damage to the newly installed structure.
“The gate is part of the ongoing renovation work. The impact bent sections of it,” the aide explained.
The truck is believed to belong to Tricata Nigeria Ltd, although its registration number was not immediately available at the scene.
Confirming the development, the Director-General of Press Affairs at the Gombe Government House, Ismaila Misilli, said no lives were lost.
“The incident occurred, but we are grateful there was no fatality. The driver sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment,” he said.
The Government House is presently undergoing major renovation and rehabilitation as part of the state government’s broader infrastructure upgrade efforts.
