NDDC Partners NLNG to complete Bonny Ring Road

…The Bonny Ring Road project is one of the legacy projects captured in the 2024 budget of the commission.

The iNews Times reports that the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has partnered with the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (2005) to ensure the speedy completion of the 27.1-kilometer Bonny Ring Road and Bridges in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The Bonny Ring Road project, which is being executed in partnership with the NLNG, aims to significantly improve the socio-economic fortunes of Bonny Kingdom and the Niger Delta region at large.

According to the NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the commission has engaged international oil and gas companies to attract partnerships for large-scale projects. “We are collaborating with NLNG to facilitate the construction of the Bonny Ring Road, the Kaa-Ataba Bridge, and the Okrika-Borokiri Bridge,” he stated during an inspection of the road project.

Dr. Ogbuku emphasized that the project collaboration was a mandate from President Bola Tinubu, highlighting the commission’s determination to deliver the road alongside several others.

He made this statement clear when he paid a courtesy visit to the Amanyanabo and Traditional Ruler of Bonny Kingdom, King Edward Asimini William Dappa Pepple III, in his palace.

Beyond inspecting the ring road project, the commission was in the kingdom to seek the monarch’s blessings for the 25th anniversary celebration of the commission, which would commence with a thanksgiving service on Sunday, July 6, 2025, in Ondo State.

As part of the ceremonies, the name of the late Harold Dappa-Biriye would be mounted at the new NDDC headquarters at the Marine Base, Port Harcourt, recognizing his critical role in the Niger Delta struggle.

Dr. Ogbuku reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to implementing the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government in the Niger Delta region. “We remain dedicated to the mandate given to the NDDC by President Bola Tinubu to transform Nigeria’s oil-producing region,” he said.

The construction of the road is expected to contribute to poverty reduction by positively impacting the economic growth of the host and adjoining communities.

The NLNG is providing 80% of the N375 billion funding for the project, while the Federal Government through the NDDC will cover the remaining 20%, approximately N75 billion. The project is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2027.

The Bonny Ring Road project is one of the legacy projects captured in the 2024 budget of the commission, aimed at facilitating the completion of legacy projects across the region.

The president’s approval also includes the Kaa-Ataba Bridge and the Okrika-Borokiri Bridge in Rivers State, among others.

Dr. Ogbuku emphasized that the commission’s projects are based on needs assessment and are designed to complement the efforts of state governments, not compete with them.

“We believe that in partnership with stakeholders, we will achieve more, and development in our region will be faster and more holistic,” Dr. Ogbuku stated, highlighting the commission’s commitment to positively impacting the lives of the people in the Niger Delta region, The iNews Times reports.
