It’s Now APC vs Nigerians – PDP Deputy Spokesman Declares

2027 Battle Now Between Nigerians and APC, Not Political Parties

Ibrahim Abdullahi talks about governors leaving PDP for APC

…says those abandoning PDP for APC were motivated by personal gain rather than principle.

ABUJA, NIGERIA – The iNews Times | The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed the recent wave of defections from its fold to the ruling All Progressives Congress APC as acts of greed and selfishness, insisting that the party remains focused on rescuing Nigeria from what it described as an “army of occupation masquerading as a democratic government.”

Speaking on Arise Television on Wednesday, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Ibrahim Abdullahi, said those abandoning the opposition party were motivated by personal gain rather than principle.

“It’s nothing other than greed, avarice, and selfishness on the part of those leaving,” Abdullahi said. “To the best of my knowledge and that of Nigerians, you cannot find a compelling reason that would warrant a governor completing his second term, for example in Bayelsa, to want to leave the party.”

He argued that the defectors’ actions would not derail the PDP’s mission to rebuild the nation, adding that the political contest ahead of 2027 has evolved beyond party rivalry.

“As we journey towards 2027, it’s not about PDP and APC anymore, it’s now APC against Nigerians,” Abdullahi declared.

The PDP spokesman said Nigerians have endured “unimaginable hardship” under the All Progressives Congress (APC) government, particularly in the last two years, and warned that the electorate is ready to push back against bad governance.

He further suggested that the defections could even strengthen the party’s internal cohesion ahead of its forthcoming national convention.

“To the best of the PDP, it is good riddance to bad rubbish,” he said. “If only we can weed out these elements before our convention next month, we will emerge more cohesive and better prepared to retrieve this country.”

Abdullahi reaffirmed that the PDP remains committed to its founding ideals of inclusiveness, good governance, and national unity, stressing that no amount of political maneuvering will stop the party from repositioning itself as a credible alternative to the ruling APC.
