Birnin Kebbi, Nigeria — The iNews Times | Three officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) were killed on Thursday night when gunmen suspected to be members of the Lakurawa armed group launched a violent attack on an Immigration checkpoint in Bakin Ruwa community, Bagudu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The gunmen reportedly stormed the area under the cover of darkness, unleashing heavy gunfire on the officers stationed at the checkpoint. During the assault, the attackers set an NIS patrol vehicle ablaze and destroyed the makeshift shelter used by personnel on duty, leaving the scene in ruins.

The incident came to public attention after security analyst Bakatsine shared details and a video of the aftermath on X on Friday. “Yesterday night, gunmen suspected to be Lakurawa attack Nigeria Immigration Service checkpoint in Bakin Ruwa community, Bagudu LGA of Kebbi State. They killed 3 NIS officer, set a vehicle ablaze and destroyed the shelter area during the attack,” he wrote.

Bakatsine, while condemning the attack, also questioned what immediate measures communities and security authorities could adopt to prevent further incidents of this kind.

The attack adds to the growing wave of violence across Kebbi and neighbouring states, where non-state armed groups continue to target security agencies, local communities and critical infrastructure.
