Yahaya Warns: Exclusion of Herdsmen

…Yahaya further noted that the worsening security situation is partly linked to the unfair treatment and marginalisation of pastoralist communities

KADUNA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | Gombe State Governor, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, and the Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum says insecurity in northern Nigeria has been aggravated by the lack of understanding of the grievances that drove armed bandits to take up arms.

In an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, monitored by our correspondent in Kaduna, Yahaya disclosed that the 19 northern governors have resolved to set up a joint regional security coordination agency, with each state committing ₦1 billion monthly to enhance collective efforts against kidnapping, banditry, and school disruptions.

The resolution was adopted at the Northern Governors’ Forum meeting, convened in response to a spike in attacks that triggered mass abductions and forced school closures across several states.

Yahaya further noted that the worsening security situation is partly linked to the unfair treatment and marginalisation of pastoralist communities, which has bred anger and frustration, conditions criminal groups have taken advantage of.

He stressed that tackling the root causes of the crisis, including exclusion, injustice, and economic hardship, is essential to achieving lasting peace.

Governor Yahaya added that the new regional security structure would enhance intelligence-sharing, coordinated operations, and preventive measures across the affected states.
