Police Interrogate Gang Leader

…According to the police, some individuals and organised criminal groups have taken advantage of the lapse in enforcement to facilitate violent crimes,

ABUJA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | The Nigeria Police Force has announced that it will resume enforcement of the tinted glass permit policy, citing growing security concerns nationwide.

In a statement released on Monday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police Benjamin Hundeyin, the police said the enforcement would recommence on January 2, 2026, even as the issue remains before the court. The Force, however, clarified that there is no court order preventing it from implementing existing laws governing the use of tinted glass on vehicles.

The statement explained that enforcement was previously suspended in the interest of public convenience and transparency, to give motorists sufficient time to regularise their documents and complete the permit registration process without undue pressure.

Hundeyin said recent security assessments have shown a surge in criminal activities involving vehicles fitted with unauthorised tinted glass, which are allegedly used by criminals to conceal their identities while committing offences such as armed robbery and kidnapping.

According to the police, some individuals and organised criminal groups have taken advantage of the lapse in enforcement to facilitate violent crimes, prompting the Force to consider the resumption both necessary and urgent as a preventive measure to protect lives and property.

As a result, the police confirmed that full enforcement of the tinted glass permit will resume on January 2, 2026.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, assured the public that the renewed enforcement would be conducted with professionalism, respect for citizens’ rights and in line with existing laws. He reiterated the Force’s commitment to public safety, the rule of law and collaboration with relevant stakeholders to enhance national security.

Motorists in need of tinted glass permits were advised to apply through approved channels and ensure their vehicles meet all legal requirements, the statement added.
